I made this today and I can tell you this is absolutely incredible. It took me 40mins. I poured it out in the pan...I let it cool for a little bit on the counter...I chopped pecans, macadamias, walnuts, and almond bark. I did not mixed the nuts together...I just laid them accoss different sections of the caramel. OMG! Better than See's Candy OMG!!!
I make these every year at Christmas time, and if I don't, I will be hunted down since they're so yummy
My neighbor made these for Christmas and they were to die for! She added Maldon Sea Salt on top (pressing in) and refrigerated before cutting. I begged for the recipe and can't wait to try for myself.
I used sweetened evaporated milk and a pinch of kosher salt
If I could do zero stars I would. Hate the flavor. Hate the texture. I have made HUNDREDS of batches of caramel and this is the first to burn, taste bad and have a horrible texture. Do yourself a favor and find a good recipe you have made before. Wish I would have stuck to my favorite recipe. This is not it.
yummiest caramel ever! took off between 245 and 250 dgrees it took an hour and a half but i was being careful not to scorch it they are so perfectly soft.if pouring onto parchment u dont need to grease it.i did and it made my caramels greasy.
I cut the slab into pieces and rolled them up in parchment paper like the recipe asked. It worked quite well. It just took a while!
I have never made caramels , so I thought I’d give this recipe a try. These turned out great! They were soft, buttery, and had delicious, rich creamy flavor. My friends and family were impressed! The hardest part is patiently waiting for the mixture to come to temp. (Because I had a scheduling conflict, I actually went to just around 240 degrees and they were perfect.) After cooling completely, I cut and wrapped in precut waxed paper squares. Like others have said: Be sure your cooking pot is large and the pan for pouring cooked mixture into is buttered VERY lightly. I recommend this recipe and will be making again and again! These were better than any that I have ever bought.
I cooked it to 250 the first time, but they turned out hard, like Werther's Original candy. Delicious, but hard. I am not sure if my candy thermometer just doesn't work very well or what, but the second time I only let it get to 243 (where the hardball section is on my thermometer) and it turned out so much better. Still giving this 5 stars, because the caramel itself is absolutely delicious! Even when it's hard and crunchy!
