Directions very easy to follow tastes great would make again and again
Super easy to make and only burnt myself once! Our outside workers, 5 of the, just loved them for their afternoon break! I put about 1/4 tsp of nutmeg in the batter. For fluffier batter try a splash of vinegar or lemon/lime juice.
This is a great recipe to get rid of apples that need to be eaten. What I found out: temp of oil is a key (try tiny amounts till you aren't burning apples. I didn't have temp gage for oil.) 2. I used ice cream scooper, worked, make sure that clump is flattened a little then flip; the cinnamon/ sugar still sticks even after putting on napkin. If clumps too hig batter in middle may not cook. For us, putting little more sugar than cinnamon balances flavor. If I use old apples again I may sprinkle the cut apples with a teaspoon of sugar, stir.
Easy recipe, just not sweet enough.
Tastes bland, despite following the recipe exactly.
I got my oil up to temp and kept it there throughout frying but they would not get crisp. They were good though. I did add a little more sugar, some cinnamon and a bit of vanilla. I'll keep trying until I can get them crisp.
5 stars for producing a very quick and easy recipe that is not overly sweet. The fritter is so pillowy soft. I only modified with adding some vanilla and with the spices. I added a bit of fresh grated nutmeg, a dash of cinnamon, and cardamom to the batter. A squeeze of lemon juice was added to the chopped up apple with a sprinkle of sugar while I stirred up the batter. They produce a beautiful fritter. I made a double batch because I was giving them away. They got a firm “delicious” from all. rolled in cinnamon sugar.
These were delicious, although I made a few changes after reading the other comments… I added 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg and upped the sugar to 2 tablespoons. The family ate the whole batch, they were light fluffy and full of flavor. The sugar might need to vary depending on type of apple used.
These are really good. Come together quicker than you might think. I’ve made apple fritters before but we liked these better. They aren’t as sweet as the ones I normally make and my husband and I liked that. I used Granny Smiths and those were good in it. At first my oil temp was too high and outside got very crisp while inside was uncooked. Could be that I used a saucepan with oil in it. And heat may not have been evenly distributed. These babies were even good second day, warmed up in toaster oven and tossed in cinnamon sugar a second time after heating. Will definitely make again!
