I like this recipe. I do think if you add more applesauce equal it with your flour so you will not have such a dense bread. I made it with homemade applesauce. Very good. I will try it again.
I'm sorry to say this recipe just isn't quite right. I followed the revisions of the last reviewer (CTCOOK1 - from 2006!). With their revisions, it was edible (in addition to their changes, I also increased baking powder from 1/2 t. to 1 t., and made a topping that consisted of brown sugar, butter, chopped pecans, salt and cinnamon), but not great. Not memorable. Not something I would repeat. I was trying to use up homemade applesauce -- I will search out another recipe next time.
Way too much batter for one loaf pan 9X5 inches. Need to revise the recipe to make two loaf pans at one time or warn people!
Great base recipe I also added oil and butter to make super moist two cups of applesauce also one banana some cocoa powder three times the spices I folded in some oatmeal produced two loaf pans of moist spiced sweet dessert my family all loved
I wish I had read the comments before making this. It was dry and bland.
I made this recipe as listed with the following exception - based on some of the comments, I doubled the spices. Very good bread. Moist, flavorful, cooked through in the time listed. I have an apple tree that produced in abundance this year. I've been making lots of applesauce, which I look for a variety of ways to use. I will definitely bake this bread again.
Very delicious
No nutsIt was great
This recipe is great! With the spices I did a 1.5 : 1 ratio for cinnamon nutmeg and allspice. Also if you can- make your own apple sauce! I left mine a little chunky so throughout the cake had little cooked apple pieces :)
